The Huron County Right to Life's annual spring dinner is on Tuesday, March 25th, at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Bad Axe. Lisa Gigliotti is the keynote speaker for the evening. She is a decades-long leader in the work to safeguard Michigan from physician assisted suicide. For more than twenty-five years, Lisa has lived with severe rheumatoid arthritis and myasthenia gravis. Through fourteen major surgeries and recurrent use of a wheelchair, Lisa has maintained a fulfilling and positive life. She has achieved a successful career in roles including an administrative law judge, a policy advisor for the Michigan senate and governor, a Bioethics law professor, writer, and an advocate for people with disabilities and for improving end-of-life care. Lisa will share a powerful message about The Courage to Honor the End of Life (based on her book). Register today!
The Huron County Right to Life is sponsoring its local pro-life High School Oratory Contest on April 12th at the Bad Axe Free Methodist Church at 2pm. Applicants must research, write, and present a 5-7 minute pro-life speech on the issue of abortion, infanticide, euthanasia, or embryonic stem cell research (cloning). Three cash prizes of $300, $200, and $100 will be awarded locallly. The winner will advance to the state level contest in Lansing on April 26th for a shot at $500, $300, or $200. The Huron County RTL is sponsoring a local $500 Senior Pro-life Essay Scholarship. High school seniors must submit a 400-500 word typed essay on the prompt: Reflect on areas where you believe your character has grown throughout your journey as a young pro-life advocate and how this influences your future goals. The local winner will receive $500 and advance to the state-level round where one $500 scholarship will be awarded. Contestants must submit their application and essay to HURONRTL@gmail.com by 11:59pm on April 25, 2025.
The Huron County Right to Life (RTL) will award cash prizes of $200, $100, and $75 to the top three local High School Volunteers of the Year. First place will advance to the state level contest for a shot at another $200 cash prize. The criteria includes the student’s application and a list of his/her participation in Right to Life of Michigan and Huron County RTL pro-life activities from August 2024 – July 2025. Some upcomng activities include attending the March for Life in Washington D.C. in January, attending the FREE Tri-County Teen Rally on 3/02/25 in Cass City, attending the Huron Co. RTL spring dinner on 03/25/25 in Bad Axe, and competing in the Huron Co. RTL High School Oratory Contest in Bad Axe. This contest is open to all Huron County students in grades 9th-12th.
