The Huron County Right to Life hosted their annual Focus on Life dinner on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Bad Axe. Almost two hundred guests attended the event.
Our featured guest speaker was Lisa K. Gigliotti, Esq. She is a decades-long leader in the work to safeguard Michigan from physician assisted suicide. For more than twenty-five years, Lisa has lived with severe rheumatoid arthritis and myasthenia gravis. Through fourteen major surgeries and recurrent use of a wheelchair, Lisa has maintained a fulfilling and positive life. She has achieved a successful career in roles including an administrative law judge, a policy advisor for the Michigan senate and governor, a Bioethics law professor, writer, and an advocate for people with disabilities and for improving end-of-life care. Lisa shared a powerful message about The Courage to Honor the End of Life (based on her book). She left the audience with several points to ponder. Here are a few of them. People with disabilities are against assisted suicide, feel vulnerable to bias about worth, coercion, and abuse. Bias leads to dangerous denials of care. Doctors oppose assisted suicide. There are better alternatives.
Pastor Garret Gazlay of Elkton Missionary Church opened the program with a prayer. Pastor Ean Green of Community Weslyan Church of Elkton closed the evening with a prayer. Thank you to all the attendees for joining us to learn about the recurring threat of physician assisted suicide becoming legal in Michigan. Thank you to the Bad Axe Knights of Columbus for donating the use of their hall. Thank you to the countless volunteers that setup and cleaned up.
Anna Nyeholt, daughter of Christopher & Sarah Nyeholt, won the 2025 pro-life t-shirt design contest. She received $200. Everyone who attended the Tri-County Pro-life Teen Rally on March 2nd at Cass City Jr./Sr. High School received a free t-shirt with Anna's design. The quote on the back said: You don’t have to be a lifeguard to save lives... Eleven teens submitted designs for the contest. Thank you to each of the designers. It was a tough decision!
A big thank you goes out to the ten Knights of Columbus Councils that sponsored the purchase of the t-shirts. Each council was listed on the back of the t-shirt which included: Bad Axe Council #1546, Fr. Patrick J. Cullinane Council #8710, Sandusky Council #4693, Central Thumb Council #8892, Fr. Alpha Lahaie Council #7255, Ruth Council #3823, North Branch Area Council #9568, Marlette Council #7337, Ubly-Sheridan Council #12850, and Harbor Beach Council #11432. Thank you Knights!

He wrote a 400-500 word essay on the prompt: Reflect on areas where you believe your character has grown throughout your journey as a young pro-life advocate and how this influences your future goals. Here's an excerpt from his essay, "I have not only strengthened my resolve to save the unborn but also become a better Christian too. The pro-life movement has impacted me in so many ways. I’m a better speaker, I’m more confident, and I’ve even decided to spend my next summer saving lives too." Congratulations Utah!
