The Huron County Right to Life hosted their annual Focus on Life dinner on Monday, March 16, 2026, at the Knights by Café 53 hall in Bad Axe. Over two hundred forty guests attended the event. Thank you to all of the dinner guests for setting aside time to attend the dinner. Dinner guests learned how to have pro-life conversations with family, friends, and strangers alike, always meeting people where they are at.
Haili Gusa, originally from Ubly, was the guest speaker. She is the Speaking and Training Coordinator at Protect Life Michigan. With a bachelor's degree in communication from Central Michigan University, she is using her unique skill set to equip the next generation of life defenders. Haili travels the state, conversing with thousands of Michigan students on the injustice of abortion and what young people can do to make a difference. As a seasoned activist who has personally changed pro-choice minds on the issue, she wants to equip others to use truth and compassion to do the same.
Haili said, “We must never forget that the unborn are living human beings. We know this because they have two human parents, and they are growing.” She provided an Apologetics Quick Guide with this information. “Abortion is the greatest human rights injustice of our time. In America, over 2,800 babies are killed every day by abortion. The victims have no way to protect themselves, or even speak up for themselves. Therefore, we must be the voice for the voiceless!” Click on blue below to view or download the two-page guide.
Austin Burton of Ubly was the master of ceremonies. Father Kevin Wojciechowski of Holy Name of Parish, Harbor Beach, opened the program with a prayer. Pastor David Castle of the Free Methodist Church, Bad Axe, closed the evening in prayer. Thank you to the countless volunteers that set up, hosted, and cleaned up.

The Huron County Right to Life once again sponsored a local pro-life senior scholarship. Applicants were required to submit a 400-500 word essay on the prompt: Reflect on areas where you believe your character has grown throughout your journey as a young prolife advocate and how this influences your future goals.
The local winner was Sarah Nimtz of USA High School. She received a$500 scholarship and advances to the state level round where another $500 scholarship will be awarded. Here is an excerpt from Sarah’s essay:
The pro-life movement has shaped the person I am today. I have become an empathetic and outspoken individual who isn't afraid to stand against the crowd or disagree with others, respectfully. Without realizing it, my advocacy for this movement has influenced my career choice. Although one may not immediately think about a high school English teacher being a pro-life related career, my teaching and classroom will be guided by the values that are found in this movement. The pro-life movement will allow me to advocate for the potential of babies to have a chance at life and for teenagers to have that same chance. I'm so grateful for what the pro-life movement has done to help me grow, and I can't wait to see where this journey takes me.

The Huron County Right to Life sponsored a local pro-life Oratory Contest on April 12th. Titus Green took 1st place and received $300. An excerpt from his speech said, "We need to be a voice for the voiceless and we need to get the word out that good things are starting to happen in the pro-life movement."
